Passover prep without processed foods may sound daunting, but a little planning and the right tools can make the experience enjoyable—and even fun! You don’t need a dedicated Passover kitchen to get started. A corner of a room, a section of a hallway, or a small nook can become your Passover prep zone. Here’s how to set up your workspace and a list of my favorite tools to make the job easier.

Creating Your Passover Prep Space

1. Choose the Right Spot

  • Find an area at least four feet wide.
  • Make sure you have access to electricity and water. (A laundry tub works if the kitchen sink isn’t available.)
  • Proximity to a refrigerator and freezer is helpful—you’ll be amazed at how quickly you fill them with your homemade ingredients!

2. Set Up Your Workspace

  • A sturdy work table: Look for one with enough space to accommodate your chopping, juicing, blending, and packaging.
  • Storage underneath: Use bins or baskets to store bulk ingredients and finished items.
  • Shelving unit: Place it nearby for easy access to tools and gadgets without cluttering your workspace.

3. Organize for Efficiency

  • Use clear bins or labeled containers to sort ingredients and tools.
  • Keep a trash bin close by.
  • Have towels, rags, and disinfectant handy for quick cleanup.

My Favorite Tools (Acquired Over Time!)

When I started making Passover from scratch, I didn’t have all of these tools. I added them gradually as I discovered how much easier they made the process.

  • Citrus Juicer: Essential for juicing the pounds of lemons, limes, and oranges that go into dressings, marinades, and desserts.
  • Large Crock Pots (2): Perfect for slow-cooking apples into applesauce.
  • High-Speed Blender: A game-changer for sauces, soups, and even homemade almond milk.
  • Food Processor: Speeds up prep time for nut-based crusts, vegetable kugels, and more.
  • Dehydrator: Great for making shallot powder, dried fruits, and snacks.
  • Mixing Bowls in Multiple Sizes: You’ll need plenty for different ingredients.
  • Cutting Mats and Boards: One for fruits, one for vegetables, and one just for nuts.
  • Mason Jars and Containers: Essential for storing juices, sauces, and spice blends.

Bonus Tip: Don’t forget to create a playlist of your favorite music or podcasts. Passover prep is more fun when you’re dancing along to your favorite tunes!

With your workspace set and tools ready, you’re prepared to turn basic ingredients into delicious creations. Happy prepping!
